Latest Colorado Rockies Transactions (January)
Last updated January 20, 2026.
1/20/26 – The Colorado Rockies acquire RHP Jake Brooks from the Miami Marlins in exchange for RHP Bradley Blalock.
Blalock, who was DFA’d upon the signing of Michael Lorenzen is on his way to Miami. The right-handed pitcher saw poor results in 2025 as he ranked dead-last in ERA (9.36) and K% (9.8%). He posted intriguing pitch peripherals when he pitched at sea-level, but Coors field did a number on his results. The Marlins are great at developing pitchers, so Blalock and the Marlins are a satisfactory pairing. The Rockies receive Jake Brooks. He is coming off a season where he posted a 4.33 ERA across High-A and Double-A as a starting pitcher. The 24-year-old does an excellent job at limiting walks, his career 1.85 BB/9 is proof. His fastball averages only 91 MPH, but if he maintains his strong command he can be a possible starting pitcher option for the Rockies down the road. Tanner Gordon is a plausible comparison, he averaged only 92 MPH in 2025 but saw enticing highs throughout the season. Brooks will be a name to look out for going into 2026.
1/15/26 – The Colorado Rockies sign UTIL Willi Castro to a two-year $12.8M contract.
Castro is entering his age 29 season and has a curious player profile. Castro made his MLB debut back in 2019 as a 22-year-old, but didn’t make a proper name for himself until 2023 with the Minnesota Twins. From 2023-2024 the new Rockies outfielder slashed .251/.334/.395 with a 107 wRC+. Pair that with good defense across both the infield and outfield as well as an excellent base runner, Castro had a strong 5.3 fWAR in 282 games. To start 2025 he was on a similar trajectory, but upon being traded to the Chicago Cubs he hit a rough patch. A .170 AVG, 40 wRC+ and a -0.5 fWAR across 34 games is testament to the struggles he faced. Also in 2025 he regressed with both fielding and base running, so that puts more pressure on him to make an impact with the bat. Castro is a half a season removed from being a player nearly 10% better than League average offensively, as well as being one of the most versatile defenders in the game. A $6.4M AAV is great value for a player like Castro, and he will immediately make an impact with the Rockies.
1/15/26 – The Colorado Rockies designate RHP Bradley Blalock for assignment.
Blalock, 25, is one of the more interesting players in baseball. Data and baseball analytics suggests that he is a good MLB pitcher, though in 2025 he had the lowest ERA (min. 50 IP) in baseball at 9.32, nearly 2.00 points higher than number-two. He also was dead last in strikeout percentage. Why was this? A mixture of bad game planning and Coors Field. He has four offerings that grade out as above average, factor that into his age (25 y.o.) and him being a starting pitcher it seems likely that a team will claim him off of waivers.

1/10/26 – The Colorado Rockies acquire OF Jake McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for RHP Josh Grosz.
The Rockies trade for a familiar face in Jake McCarthy. From 2022-2024, McCarthy slashed .273/.339/.389 with a 103 wRC+, totaling a 5.3 fWAR for the Diamondbacks. 2025 was a down year for the outfielder as he only put up a 60 wRC+ in 67 games. Though, through his first 28 games he had a .141 AVG and a 34 wRC+. In his last 39 games he produced an 80 wRC+. He has 99th percentile sprint speed, he ranks 25th for MLB outfielders in OAA since 2024, and puts up strong contact numbers. The Rockies traded away Josh Grosz, whom they acquired at the MLB trade deadline in exchange for Ryan McMahon. Grosz had a 5.87 ERA upon joining the Rockies organization.
1/9/26 – The Colorado Rockies sign RHP Ryan Miller to a Minor League contract.
Miller, 29, will be joining his sixth team with the Colorado Rockies. He made his MLB debut in 2024 and made 13 appearances, compiling in a 4.15 ERA. He spent all of 2025 on the Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A team, where he threw 50 innings pitched all while earning a 4.32 ERA. Miller gets far down the mound when he pitches (his vertical release point was at 4.62 feet – one of the lowest in MiLB last season). He lives on the horizontal axis 3/4 of his pitches get less than four inches of induced vertical break. The Rockies routinely have pitchers with odd characteristics that do well; think Brent Suter and Jimmy Herget, Miller fits a similar mold as those two.
1/8/26 – The Colorado Rockies avoid arbitration with all six eligible players.
– OF Mickey Moniak: $4mm
– RHP Ryan Feltner: $2.45mm
– RHP Jimmy Herget: $1.55mm
– OF Brenton Doyle: $3.1mm
– OF Tyler Freeman: $1.525mm
– LHP Brennan Bernadino: $925,000
1/7/26 – The Colorado Rockies sign Michael Lorenzen to a 1-year-deal for $8 million with a club option for 2027.
Entering his 12th season as a Major Leaguer, Lorenzen is looking to continue his rock-solid career, this time as a Rockie. The recently-turned 34-year-old began his MLB career with the Cincinnati Reds as a reliever back in 2015, where he tossed over 110 innings with a 5.40 ERA. After Lorenzen’s rookie campaign he was transitioned to be a full-time reliever, and spent six seasons out of the bullpen. There, he appeared in 360 games while picking up 14 saves to a tune of a 3.65 ERA. As a reliever he boasted a strong 51% ground-ball rate (which can be indicative to success at Coors Field). In 2022 he signed with the Los Angeles Angels as a free agent and became an exclusive starting pitcher. Along with the Angels, he has spent time in the rotation for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, and most recently the Kansas City Royals. Lorenzen notably threw a No-Hitter with the Phillies in 2023. He is coming off a season where he threw 141.2 innings pitched, with a 4.64 ERA. This is a strong signing for Colorado as Lorenzen seems to be one of the better starting pitchers for the Rockies going into the 2026 season. BSB Tweet
1/7/26 – The Colorado Rockies claim RHP Keegan Thompson off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.
Thompson, 30, has seen his fair share of MLB success. In over 220 career innings pitched, the right-hander has amassed an impressive 3.64 ERA all while striking out 23% of batters. He has both MLB experience as a starter (23 career games started), and a late-inning reliever (five career saves and six career holds). Thompson’s last MLB action came in 2024 where he maintained a good 2.67 ERA across 30.1 IP. Inconsistent command kept him out of MLB in 2025. In Triple-A last season he struck out nearly 30% of batters while throwing 64 IP–his 3rd most in a season in his professional career–amassing a 4.50 ERA. After electing free agency, Thompson signed a one-year MLB contract with the Reds, but was only DFA’d a month after. Thompson can be a starting pitching option for the Rockies, but it is just as likely he will be a reliever. Good depth acquisition for Colorado. BSB Tweet
