More detailed breakdown
Selected as the number one pick in the 2025 Rule-5 draft from the Tigers, RJ Petit is one of the most polished pitchers in the Rockies organization. In 2025, the right-hander threw 66.1 innings and in that span he posted a 2.44 ERA and 29.5 K% across Double-A and Triple-A.
The reason why the Rockies selected him with the first pitch in the Rule-5 is because of a surprisingly high floor. Petit throws a 4-seam and a sinker with two distinct shapes, both averaging in the mid-90s. A changeup that plays excellently off of his sinker, which has swing-and-miss potential. While his number most frequently thrown pitch is a tight spinning, gyro shaped, slider has shades of sliders that have succeeded at Coors. Petit will have to be on the 26-man roster all season due to Rule-5 rules. So we will get a really good idea of who Petit will be as a Major Leaguer once the season starts. Written by Isaac Stevens.
