Player Summary
Brief Summary
After years of injuries, McCade Brown finally enjoyed a healthy season in 2025. The former third-round pick dominated High-A with a 1.60 ERA before posting a 3.14 ERA in Double-A, earning his MLB debut. Though he finished with a 7.46 ERA, Brown flashed promise with elite extension and a four-pitch mix. With improved command and development under the Rockies’ new pitching philosophy, the 25-year-old could emerge as a back-end starter.
More detailed breakdown
The saying that progress isn’t linear could not be truer with McCade Brown. A third-round draft pick back in 2021, McCade Brown missed a lot of time his first couple of seasons of Minor League baseball. Early shoulder issues and elbow pains eventually led to Tommy John surgery that kept the right-hander from having his first healthy season until 2025. When he was healthy in that span, he showed a strong feel for striking batters out, but before 2025, he never had an ERA below 5.00, essentially taking his name off of prospect boards.
After nearly four years of facing injuries, Brown was hungry for a restart. He began in 2025 in High-A, where he put up a 1.60 ERA. Good enough for a Double-A promotion, where he then had a 3.14 ERA. Which earned him a call to Major League Baseball. While his MLB stint ended with a 7.46 ERA, the 25-year-old flashed impressive characteristics. His seven feet of extension as he goes down the mound is in the 94th percentile of MLB pitchers in 2025. That helps make his mid-90s low-spin fastball play a tick or two higher. He pairs his fastball with a gyro slider, sweeping curveball, and a changeup that picks up above average arm-side run. All four pitches have distinct shapes, and all of which will play at the MLB level. With improved command, we can see Brown blossom into a back-end starter. A better storyline, though, is what the new Rockies pitching philosophy can do with Brown’s already good tools. Written by Isaac Stevens.
