Player Summary
Brief Summary
After a historic college career that included a .433 average and an NCAA-record 37 home runs, Charlie Condon entered pro ball with massive expectations. His first 25 games were rough, but he rebounded in 2025 with a strong 131 wRC+ despite modest home run totals. Now showing improved swing mechanics and elite exit velocities this spring, Condon looks poised for a power breakout. With growing defensive versatility, 2026 could be the year his elite bat fully arrives.
More detailed breakdown
When drafted in the first round of 2024, Charlie Condon quickly became one of the most enticing Rockies prospects of all time. After a historic final season of college where he slashed .433/.556/1.009 while breaking the NCAA single season home run record with 37 long balls, the Rockies were quick to snag the power bat. The expectations were at an all-time high for Condon. In his first professional 25 games he struggled considerably against the much better competition, striking out around a third of his at bats and putting up a measly 41 wRC+. This left a sour taste in many scouts’ mouths. So when he slashed .268/.376/.444 with 14 home runs in 2025, his season was kind of brushed aside by the media despite his 131 wRC+. Making last season one of the more underrated of any prospect in baseball.
When Condon was drafted it was almost an expectation that he would be hitting an annual 30+ home runs. So the fact he has hit just 15 in 124 games seems concerning, but that is a stanza we don’t agree with at Blake Street Banter. Pitches are faster, move more, and are thrown with more accuracy than in college. So when you are Condon (the best offensive player in NCAA history) you become enabled to the competition that you face. He didn’t need to make adjustments because he was already the best. However, that approach was never going to work in professional baseball for the reasons listed earlier.
There has been a noticeable change in Condon’s game this Spring Training. In 2025 his swing did not seem very connected/smooth. There was a difference between his lower and upper half and they did not agree with one another. That has changed this spring and he has seen big results. Not only is he striking out much less, but he is hitting baseballs very hard. He has exit velocities higher than players with the likes of Giancarlo Stanton, Nick Kurtz, Elly De La Cruz, Junior Caminero, and the list can go on.
On the defensive end, the Rockies seemed adamant about Condon being solely a first basemen, that’s where he played the majority of the time in his first full season. However, this spring he has been playing in the outfield as well and has looked fine there. He is quick enough for him to hold his own in the corner outfield. With his big bat potential, his defense doesn’t need to be good by any means to be a valuable player.
There are very strong signals that indicate an in-game power breakthrough will be happening in 2026. That includes at the MLB level. Written by Isaac Stevens.
