Player Summary
Brief Summary
Robert Calaz broke out in 2024, dominating the Arizona Complex League with a .349/.462/.651 slash line, eight homers, and a 174 wRC+, earning ACL MVP at just 18. Expectations were high entering 2025, when he posted a .259 average with 10 home runs and a 105 wRC+ in Low-A Fresno. Still just 20, Calaz flashes elite raw power but must refine his approach. If he balances aggression and discipline, his 30-homer outfield ceiling remains realistic.
More detailed breakdown
2024 was a breakout campaign for Robert Calaz. His first season stateside, he saw immediate success in the Arizona Complex League (ACL). The outfielder slashed .349/.462/.651 with 8 home runs across 49 games, resulting in a 174 wRC+. This performance earned him the ACL MVP honors at just 18 years old. So, going into 2025, there were prodigious expectations for Calaz. He spent the season in Low-A Fresno and went on to bat .259 with 10 home runs – resulting in a 105 wRC+.
At just 20-years-old, Calaz has an extraordinary feel for power. He hits the ball harder and farther than most players his age. There are big question marks surrounding his hit tool and selectiveness, however. At times, he looked overzealous at the plate, swinging through pitches trying to hit them 450 feet. Then other times, he looked defensive, trying not to strike out. You combine the two of those, and you will see poor batted ball results, which pretty much happened in 2025. If he can find that happy medium and find something that works for him, he will excel again like he did in 2024. This is a large obstacle to overcome, but given his young age, his ceiling is still very high. The ceiling of a 30+ home run every day outfielder is not an outlandish claim whatsoever.
