Player Summary
Brief Summary
Jack Mahoney enters his third full pro season with a realistic path to an MLB debut in 2025. The right-hander endured a challenging 2025 in Hartford, but showed meaningful improvement in the second half. Mahoney profiles as a durable, middle-of-the-rotation arm with a high floor. His fastball touches 97 mph and excels at generating weak contact and ground balls, while his mid-80s changeup and slider round out the mix. Continued refinement—especially of the slider—will be key. At minimum, he projects as a quality reliever and potential midseason option for Colorado.

2026 Write-up
Jack Mahoney enters his third full season of professional baseball with a chance to make his MLB debut if things go right. The right-hander spent all of last season facing the gauntlet that is the Double-A Eastern League, a season that ultimately will go down as sour on the stat pages. Looking behind the statistical curtain would show the improvement toward the second half of the season. Building upon this improvement will be paramount if he wants to stand out in the upper minors.
Jack Mahoney is a good middle-of-the-rotation prospect with a high floor. His fastball can reach up to 97 mph and is great at inducing weak contact and ground balls. Alongside his fastball is his changeup and slider, which both sit in the mid-80s. The changeup has been great for getting strikes and working counts. He would benefit massively if he improved his slider and overall refined his arsenal. At worst, I think he has the tools to be an effective reliever. Mahoney enters the 2025 season as a potential mid-season option for the Rockies. Time will tell if he gets the shot.
2025 Write-up
In 2024, Mahoney burst onto the scene for the Rockies and posted a 3.90 ERA across 120 innings pitched in Single-A and High-A. Most impressive of all is that he walked only 6% of batters in that span. Meanwhile, in 2025 he has a 5.38 ERA in Double-A, a rate worse than expected.
The Right-Hander boasts a fastball that sits 94 MPH, while throwing a slider and a changeup that both complement each other. All while having a good feel for command for the three. Mahoney lacks a true above-average pitch, and his command isn’t precise enough to fool hitters, which makes it difficult for him to pick up strikeouts. His strikeout percentage goes down by nearly 5% in just one year. His pitchability still gives him projection to be a back-end starter. Updated January 16, 2026
