Player Summary
Brief Summary
Kelvin Hidalgo is a toolsy infielder with plus speed, strong contact ability, and power potential, highlighted by a 142 wRC+ in the DSL in 2023. However, his success hasn’t translated stateside. Once an extremely aggressive hitter, Hidalgo has gradually toned down his swing, leading to more contact but weaker results. In 2025 at Single-A he posted a .247/.311/.354 line. His tools and feel for the game give him a high ceiling, but he must turn them into production to climb prospect rankings.
More detailed breakdown
Kelvin Hidalgo is a typical toolsy infield prospect. Has the ability to hit the ball hard and far, excellent base-runner with plus speed, and has a good ability to make contact whenever he swings the bat. This saw him have a 142 wRC+ for the DSL Rockies in 2023. However, upon his promotion to the stateside affiliates he has not been able to turn his raw tools into much success.
As a prospect in the DSL, Hidalgo was a free swinger. In 2023, he swung at about 74% of the pitches he saw while swinging and missing at a 39% rate. Every year, he has improved on not being so aggressive, but it has turned him almost stagnant. In the DSL, he was swinging hard every pitch; in 2025 he was barely swinging hard at all. His swing became slower and longer, which made his bat stay in the zone longer, which saw him make more contact. Albeit the contact was not resulting in hard-hit balls. Last year in Single-A, he had a .247/.311/.354. Hidalgo’s ceiling is higher than most prospects on our top 50 due to his excellent feel for the game. Until he can translate them, he will be staying in the bottom half of our list. Written by Isaac Stevens.
