Player Summary
Brief Summary
Roc Riggio, acquired from the Yankees in the Jake Bird trade, is a 5-foot-9 second baseman whose skill set fits perfectly at Coors Field. In 2025, he hit 20 home runs with a 155 wRC+ across High-A and Double-A. Known for power and plate discipline, Riggio barrels the ball consistently, often pull-side. Aggression can be an issue, but the Rockies aim to balance his approach. He projects as an everyday second baseman capable of 15–20 MLB homers.
More detailed breakdown
Acquired from the Yankees this past July as part of the package in the Jake Bird trade, Roc Riggio has a special skill set that optimally fits Coors Field and playing in Colorado. Standing a small 5-foot-9, Riggio makes a big impact on the field. In 2025, the left-handed batter knocked out 20 home runs in lieu of a 155 wRC+ season across High-A and Double-A.
Players who are undersized need to work a lot more than someone who is bigger and more physically projectable. Riggio has specialized in two things so far in his Minor League career: power and plate discipline. He has a consistently strong feel for the barrel and often hits fly balls, pull side, which in 2026 is a cheat code for game power.
There are times that the second baseman gets overly aggressive, which has not been a problem yet, but as he progresses through the minors, it can become more exploitable. Upon being traded to the Rockies, he saw a decrease in his swing rate, which also slowed down his batted ball success. The Rockies will presumably work towards a happy medium between those two. Riggio has the ceiling of an everyday second baseman who can hit out 15-20 homers per season at the MLB level. Written by Isaac Stevens.
